House plants for Indoor Air Quality

These 8 plants have be found by researchers at NASA to likely help improve indoor air quality. The plants listed below can help eliminate common pollutants found in homes. As a rule of thumb, the researchers recommend 1 plant per 100 square feet.

Bamboo Palm:

  • Prefers bright indirect light
  • Keep evenly moist

Peace Lily:

  • Prefers bright indirect light to low light
  • Let soil dry out between waterings

Golden Pothos:

  • Bright indirect light to low light
  • Drench and Dry
  • Loosen tangled vines occasionally

Mother-In-Law’s Tongue:

  • Bright indirect light to low light
  • Let soil dry out between watering

Spider Plant:

  • Bright indirect light
  • Drench and dry
  • Avoid over watering, water only when top 1” of soil is dry

Dracaena:

  • Bright Indirect Light
  • Drench and Dry

Philodendron:

  • Bright indirect light to low light
  • Keep soil moist, mist occasionally

Weeping Fig:

  • Bright indirect light
  • Keep soil moist in warm weather and let soil dry between watering when chilly
  • Plant stress can cause leaves to drop in response to over and under watering, cold drafts, needing fertilizer, low light
